Brake in new brake discs correctly - here's how!

When you get a new MOUGG or fit new brake discs, one thing is particularly important: braking in correctly (also known as "running in"). This is the only way to achieve maximum braking power and at the same time extend the service life of the disc and pads.

Why do you have to brake in brake disks?

New brake discs and brake pads do not yet have an optimum friction surface. When braking in:

  • pads and disk adapt to each other,

  • creates an even, temperature-resistant friction layer,

  • reduces the risk of squealing brakes,

  • and you get powerful, consistent braking performance - even in wet conditions or on steep descents.

How to brake your brake discs correctly:

It only takes a few minutes to slow down, but the effect is enormous. And this is how it works:

1. find a safe place

It's best to find a quiet, flat road without much traffic - e.g. a parking lot or side road.

2. accelerate and decelerate several times

  • Accelerate to around 25 km/h

  • Then brake hard but in a controlled manner until almost at a standstill

  • Repeat this process 10-20 times

  • Use the front and rear brakes alternately to retract both systems evenly

⚠️ Important: The wheels should not lock up - avoid emergency braking, especially at the beginning.

3. then: allow to cool briefly

After braking in, you should take a short break so that the brake discs can cool down again.

When is everything "slowed down"?

You will notice that the braking force is even, quiet and powerful. The typical "creaking" of new brakes also disappears over time. Now your MOUGG bike is ready for longer tours - with reliable braking performance.

💡 O ur tip: Regular maintenance of the brake system increases safety and extends its service life. Do not use any oil or grease products near the brake discs - they react sensitively to contamination.
